The Chip Formation Process When Cutting High-Speed Steels and Ti3SiC2 Ceramics

The paper presents the microstructural characterization of chip roots in high-speed steels and ceramic Ti3SiC2. process formation obtaining adequate samples were carried out using quick-stop method. tests during milling process; “quick stop” method was order to obtain roots. This developed in-house by authors. microscopically studied means a light microscope (LM) scanning electron (SEM). Before actual analysis, preparation performed based on standard metallographic technique. analysis showed that, for used cutting conditions, discontinuous with built-up edge (BUE) formed. During processing Ti3SiC2 ceramic, significant difference manifested powder-like produced. After utilizing careful process, pattern observed, from which it is evident that breakage occurs without prior plastic deformation. In addition, force Fc also measured correlated speed, feed per tooth depth cut.
